Natural wood flooring is warm and comfortable. Using wooden materials in interior decoration, the atmosphere of a room, apartment or house becomes more comfortable and homely. Wooden flooring is pleasant to the touch, which is why many people like to walk on it barefoot.
Wood is an environmentally friendly material, which means it is safe for human health, which is ideal for people prone to allergic reactions.
Thanks to its excellent characteristics, wooden floors are loved by many and are very popular among construction and finishing materials. I would especially like to highlight the larch floor, but we will try to understand in more detail what it looks like and why it is valued.

Siberian larch has long conquered everyone with its unique properties and has a large army of fans, but few know
Floor finishing
Varnished floors
Usually the front side of the boards is treated - there is no need to sand, but softwood products should be sanded with special power tools. Processed in 3 directions. Afterwards, the coating is primed and each layer is sanded. The floor surface is cleaned of dust. To increase strength, the surface is varnished several times.
Tongue and groove boards are an excellent flooring option. The installation technology is similar to a construction set, so if you follow the rules and all processes, you can install the board yourself. The result is a high-quality, practical coating.

Moisture resistance
Its main difference from other tree species is its stability in a humid environment. In the distant past, larch was used to construct ship decks, support and pile structures for bridges and buildings.
The whole trick lies in the fact that when exposed to water, it becomes more durable, not inferior to stone. Therefore, when purchasing larch wood for flooring, you can be sure that over time it will only become harder and more durable.
Technology for mounting tongue and groove material on joists
Installation of the covering of tongue and groove boards is carried out in 2 stages. First, they are laid with fastenings on 5 boards, and after 6-12 months they are re-laid with fastenings for each. This must be done, as cracks appear and the flooring must be laid again. Installation includes preliminary installation, final fastening, finishing.
Pre-installation:
Installation of tongue and groove planks
Important! The lumber is brought into the room where the flooring will be laid for a week to acclimatize the material.
- Choose a flat board along the entire length of the wall.
- They are laid with a comb to the wall at a distance of 1.5 cm. This gap allows the flooring to expand when there are changes in temperature and humidity.
- The first plank is fixed with self-tapping screws into all joists (nails can be used).
- The second is placed nearby, combining the tongue and groove. To connect tightly, you need to hit the end with a hammer through the block. This is how 4 more pieces are attached.
- Staples are hammered into the joists (bars are nailed), which are used for tightening.
- A block 5-7 cm long is placed on the logs, sliding until it stops.
- Wedges are installed between the bar and bracket, with their sharp ends facing each other. Instead of wedges, a screw jack is used.
- Before fastening, the planks are tightened by hitting the wedges with a hammer.
- Self-tapping screws are screwed into the bottommost bar, attaching the material to the joists.
- The floor is closed, securing each 5.
- The last plank is pulled together with wedges installed between the board and the wall. When it does not enter the gap, the excess part is cut off with a saw.
Thermal insulation
Excellent thermal insulation makes the material indispensable for use in residential buildings due to its ability to retain heat.
In addition, larch wood is resistant to various loads, and you can safely walk on it in heels or install furniture on legs.
tongue and groove board
Solid lumber with milled grooves and ridges that provide a gap-free surface. Thanks to this, quick fastening occurs, increasing the strength of the structure.
The connecting lock can be found on 2 or 4 sides of the product, and special bevels are made on the reverse side, allowing air to circulate inside the floor. The thickness of the boards is the same, so the floor is smooth, and the planes of the boards are sanded.
Attention! Cheap tongue and groove boards may only be processed on one side and may not have ventilation holes.
With proper installation of the material, there are no gaps, which prevents squeaks and wear.
Purpose
Basically, larch boards are used for flooring inside an apartment or house, an open terrace or veranda. Laying floorboards is quite simple; for this purpose, they are equipped with tenons, grooves and cuts, thanks to which the boards are tightly connected to each other.
For installation on the terrace, deck timber is usually used, which is installed with minimal gaps and rounded corner chamfers to prevent dirt and water from accumulating.
Most often, deck beams are used in public places, in open areas, in saunas and baths, i.e. in conditions of high humidity or direct contact with water.
For insulating floors on balconies and loggias, larch is an ideal solution, since it is not susceptible to various types of influences: open sun, bad weather, insects and fungi. In the production of parquet, solid floor boards of small dimensions are used.
What to consider when installing the coating
Coating protection oil.
In order for the flooring to last as long as possible, you need not only to choose the right lumber, but also to install it correctly.
- Before work, keep the boards indoors for seven days. This way they will reach the optimal level of humidity and temperature.
Special screws.
- Think about how to cover the slats for their fire and biological safety. Manufacturers now produce many brands of fire retardants and antiseptics.
- Pay close attention to surface preparation. Solid and parquet boards are best mounted on a plywood base.
Note! Its sheets must be moisture-resistant and have a thickness of 10 to 20 mm. To avoid possible deformations, it is best to cut the plywood into pieces measuring 100 × 100 cm. Be sure to leave compensation gaps between the sheets, at least five millimeters wide.
Covering laying scheme.
- To fix the boards to the plywood base, you can use special adhesives or nails and screws. If you have chosen fasteners, they need to be screwed into the tenons of the planks at intervals of 4/5 centimeters from each other. To make the fixation more durable, you can use both adhesive and screws.
- Among other things, protective treatment of larch floors is necessary. It is a known fact that it darkens from solar ultraviolet radiation. Select a special oil for impregnation, based on natural wax, it will provide good protection for the coating.
- Make sure that there are expansion joints about one centimeter wide between the outer boards and the walls of the room. They can be covered with floor skirting boards.
Features of choice
To make the right choice of larch material, you need to know what to consider first.
Protecting wood from external influences is the key to the reliability of a country houseWood is a natural raw material and a wonderful material
All about wooden lining - quality assessment, advantages of use and characteristics of the finishing material
Firstly, it is worth checking that the actual dimensions correspond to those indicated. Take a tape measure and measure the thickness, width and length. This is necessary so that during the installation process there are no difficulties that can arise even due to a small error of 2-3 mm.
Secondly, pay attention to the strength of the tongue-and-groove connection, because the stability, durability and reliability of the structure as a whole depends on this. To do this, connect two boards together.
Thirdly, the surface of the board must be smooth, without chips or other surface defects.
Varieties and prices
There are different categories of flooring that vary in cost. Belonging to a particular grade depends on the quality of the wood, the presence of knots, and the tendency to crack. The price also depends on the thickness of the floor board:
Wood type | Price range (RUB per m2) |
Extra | 1350 — 2500 |
Prima | 1250 — 2300 |
Category A | 1050 — 2000 |
Category B | 900 — 1700 |
Category C | 700 – 900 |

Installation of waterproofing in the bathroom
Currently, in such premises, wooden floors are laid subject to all required waterproofing work. Rolled materials specially designed for this purpose (for example, fiberglass, uniflex rubitex) are placed on the surface so that their edges extend approximately 15 centimeters onto the walls of the room.
For the production of water-repellent solutions, special dry mixtures are offered on the building materials market. It will not be difficult to prepare mastic from a different set of components.
By the way, if the room is located on wooden floors, then it is necessary to reduce the weight of the waterproofing elements. You can use a method such as impregnation with penetrating insulation. The method of action of impregnation differs from the coating version. Penetrating waterproofing in a humid environment is capable of creating a structure that is characterized by sufficient vapor permeability and at the same time has water-repellent properties.
