A second life for firewood or what can be made from firewood?

The choice of the optimal time of year to buy firewood largely depends on the conditions for drying it and the material costs that the buyer is ready for. In addition, the decision is made based on the product purchased - simply sawn or already chopped.

Thus, people with experience advise purchasing unsplitted material in the fall, since in the cold winter it is easier to split firewood. This statement is true for fibrous and gnarled species, such as aspen and oak. If you buy chopped firewood (their price, however, is higher), you will avoid a labor-intensive process and get more freedom in choosing the appropriate season.

Why did I have to buy firewood?

This was back in 2011. In my village I have a house and a plot of land, at that time small, about forty hundred square meters. And I was in the village from spring until late autumn. And autumn, as always, is a busy time, harvesting from the garden to the basement.

So that there is no such picture as Nekrasov’s “only one strip is not compressed, it makes me sad.”

I put all the crops in the basement, insulated the basement door, and insulated the house for the winter. And now you can go to your city apartment with peace of mind, with a feeling of all the work done. And my city apartment has stove heating. When I looked into the woodshed, I realized that I wouldn’t have enough wood for the winter.

In general, let's say, there is no one to blame, the mug himself. I usually buy firewood in winter in lumps. I chop it myself and in the spring I put it in the barn, in the fires, for the next heating season. Apparently, he thought that it should be enough, but alas...

Safety precautions: how not to get burned by the stove

The main dangers of stove heating are toxic carbon monoxide, the risk of fire and burns. To avoid this, it is important to follow a few tips:

  1. Check the condition of the stove and chimney ducts before starting the fire.
  2. Do not use gasoline or other flammable mixtures for kindling.
  3. Try to always finish heating a few hours before bedtime.
  4. Do not accelerate the oven above the permissible temperature.
  5. When installing the stove, adhere to fire safety.
  6. Keep children away from the stove equipment. Do not leave them alone with a hot oven.
  7. Do not place furniture or interior items near the stove that can quickly catch fire.

By adhering to basic safety rules when operating the stove, you can avoid irreversible consequences and not put the health of loved ones at risk.

Wood humidity

What should be the moisture content of wood for heating stoves and fireplaces? In order for the house to receive heat, we saved money, and the stove served for a long time and pleased us with warmth, light, created a cozy atmosphere in the house, did not require repairs and did not collapse, the humidity of the firewood should be 17-20 percent. Then the question arises: how to measure the moisture content of firewood ? If determining the moisture content of the firewood by eye is not enough for you, you want to make sure that the firewood is dried correctly, then you can use instruments to check the moisture content of the wood. Such devices can be ordered online or purchased in specialized stores. Such devices are called “moisture meters”.
