How to properly install a gas cylinder in a private home

From the moment of its creation and with the further development of the gas industry, its main direction is considered to be complete gas supply to all residents of the country. Therefore, the construction of main gas pipelines is carried out so that the maximum number of consumers can be supplied with gas.

And although the gasification process has been going on for decades, in remote settlements on the outskirts of the country, as well as in small holiday villages and suburbs, there is still no centralized gas supply. This is why many owners of gas equipment have to use gas cylinders. But how to store them correctly and is it necessary to buy a cabinet for gas cylinders?

This is exactly what we will talk about in our article - we will consider the most pressing issues regarding the safe maintenance of gas cylinders at home, legal requirements and optimal solutions for the use of special cabinets.

Types of gas cylinders

Most owners use propane in cylinders (more precisely, a mixture of propane and butane) to operate gas stoves, and in second place for heating systems. Household containers for transporting and storing gas differ in volume and weight:

  • Volume 5 l - has a mass of 6 kg;
  • Volume 12 l - has a mass of 11 kg;
  • Volume 27 l - has a mass of 26 kg;
  • Volume 50 l - has a mass of about 43 kg.

There are containers with a minimum capacity of 220 and 400 ml, but they are used only for portable gas stoves, burners and blowtorches.
They produce 2 types of gas tanks - with a valve or valve. It is better to choose devices that have a valve; it is easier to drain condensate from them without using outside help.

✍ Cylinders made in the USSR

And now thrifty owners use old metal containers, which are already dangerous to use. It’s not worth keeping them in the house, and not only because of their unattractive appearance. The metal suffers from corrosion; you cannot vouch for the reliability of the old container.

In some CIS countries their use is prohibited, or they must be tested and receive an appropriate certificate. But it is better to purchase safe, modern products.

✍ Modern steel cylinders

These devices are slightly better, but their metal also suffers from corrosion. Temperature changes are dangerous for them. Large containers (over 50 liters) are prohibited from being placed in a residential building.

These cylinders are installed outdoors; for this purpose, metal cabinets are prepared by mounting them near the walls of the house, in a place protected from the sun. You can place small containers in your home, but you must adhere to the requirements - the minimum space between the cylinder and the gas stove is 1.5 m.

In addition, you must:

  1. Place containers in a room where there is ventilation, a stable temperature is maintained, and at a distance from heating devices;
  2. Promptly check the gas cylinder for suitability for use.
