Classification

Gas boilers for heating private houses Immergas are divided into double-circuit and single-circuit. How to set up a boiler correctly

The Immergas boiler is configured in service mode. It is performed during the first launch or after repair work .

All gas boilers undergo bench testing and adjustment at the enterprise, so before starting they only adjust the basic parameters of the unit to obtain maximum efficiency under the existing conditions and reduce fuel consumption.

Usually customized:

  • DHW and DHW temperatures (upper and lower limits).
  • Gas pressure (upper and lower limits corresponding to the supply mode in the main).
  • DHW and DHW pressure in the respective circuits.

Special boiler power settings are made mechanically on the gas valve. The maximum and minimum levels are set, forming the range of operating parameters of the unit.

On the control panel, only the maximum power of the heating mode is adjusted, for which you enter the service menu and set the required values.

Now in Western European countries it is allowed to install only condensing units, so many companies, because of this feature, have transferred the production of their own traditional boilers to Slovakia.

The Russian market offers the following devices of this brand:

The first type of boilers was not widespread among Russian buyers due to its own high cost and cheap gas in our country. Because, as you know, the main advantage of condensing units lies precisely in saving natural gas by 20-30%, and in European territory it is much more expensive than in Russia. Therefore, in our case, it is better to consider classic Immergas gas boilers, which are divided into:

  • units with one circuit (for heating only);
  • with two circuits (heating and hot water heating);
  • with one circuit + built-in boiler for 45 or 60 liters.

The boiler does not turn on - there is no indication

Almost all modern gas boilers are equipped with a control board and an information panel with a liquid crystal display or LED indicators. If there is no indication, first of all you need to make sure that power is supplied to the boiler. Typically, the electrical connection of the boiler is carried out through a separate “automatic machine” - check whether it is turned on or not.

The surest way to make sure that power is supplied to the boiler is to check with a multimeter in voltmeter mode the presence of 220V at the connection point to the boiler board. If there is no voltage, it is necessary to localize and eliminate the problem. In real life, it happens that someone in the household simply pulls the plug from the socket.

Safety fuses

It is also worth paying attention to the location of the fuses. In some boilers, depending on the model (for example, Ariston, Buderus, Vaillant), the fuses are located on the board itself, and in some, before they are connected to the board

If there are no problems with the electrical connection to the boiler, you should check the integrity of the fuses (with the same multitester in the “continuity” mode).

If the fuses are intact and there is 220 volts at the control points, it is likely that the boiler does not turn on due to a malfunction of the control electronics.

If during the inspection it turns out that the fuses have blown, then there was at least a problem with the power supply. In this case, it would be correct to first conduct research on the actuators (fan, pump, priority valve) and boiler wiring for a short circuit. However, in practice, even representatives of specialized organizations simply replace the fuses with good ones and check the boiler in operation. If the fuses blow again, then sequentially turn off the high-voltage parts of the boiler to identify the problem area (this is not a recommendation for action! This approach is not entirely correct).

Several spare fuses are usually supplied with the boiler.

If the fuses blow due to damage to one of the actuators, it must be replaced (or the cause of the short circuit must be eliminated). In the case where it is proven that the mechanisms (and wiring) are in good working order, the control board itself remains. Blown fuses indicate that there was an unacceptable load on the electronics (thunderstorm, pulsed power surge in the network), so the cause of the malfunction may also be a short circuit on the board itself.

Water (moisture) getting on the board

Water ingress is one of the most unpleasant situations. Although the board is in a protective case, water may get inside due to leakage or condensation. Often it gets into the box through the wires. Water ingress almost always causes damage to the board, in most cases irreparable. Characteristic stains and oxidation will be visible on the board due to water.

Varistor and power supply

Often, if the boiler board is damaged, burnt or charred elements can be visually detected on it. A varistor is a protective element of the board that is installed at the input of the circuit. In most cases, this is a blue round part (but not necessarily). When the rated load is exceeded, the varistor is destroyed and opens the circuit. In some cases, if the varistor helped prevent damage to the electronics, it is enough to bite it out to eliminate the gap in the circuit

Important! Although the board circuit will work without a varistor, it should be remembered that the varistor is a protective device and the correct solution would be to replace it. The power supply is a microcircuit that is also damaged primarily during pulsed power surges or during a thunderstorm

If cracks or damage are visible, the boiler board will likely need to be diagnosed and repaired.

Display board

For some boiler models (Vaillant, Ariston, Navien), the control unit consists of a main board and an information board (display board). The boiler may also not turn on if the display board is broken. The display board, unlike the main one, is cheaper, but most often cannot be repaired. In this case, the fault can only be identified by replacing a known good part.

If the gas boiler is working, there is an indication on the display, but it does not start or produces errors, further diagnostics are required.

In short, I had to figure it out myself. It turned out to be a bad electrical contact on the 3-way valve. It also leaks air through the nipple of the expansion tank. You have to constantly pump it up. The nipple does not unscrew at all. There was also a constant overheating error. I had to adjust the gas regulator several times. I don’t know why this was not configured initially or why this setting gets lost. In short, if you want to constantly tweak and finish something, then this boiler is for you.

Comment: Flame modulation on heating does not work. When turned on, the beginning of one sign lights up, then the second, the third blinks immediately goes out and continues to work on the second icon. When the temperature rises, the flame does not decrease until it turns off. What I also didn’t like was that all the pipes were mixed, not like on other boilers. When replacing the boiler, all the pipes had to be redone. In short, I don’t recommend it to anyone.

Brief information about the design of the heating system

Modern gas heating systems are complex systems. Their operation is monitored using a whole range of automatic devices, which you need to become familiar with before you begin repairing gas boilers yourself.

Basic elements of a security group:

  • Draft sensors designed for 75 0 C. This device makes it possible to monitor the condition of the chimney. If normal smoke removal fails, the temperature rises and the sensor is triggered. Optimally, in addition to the traction sensor, a gas alarm is purchased.
  • The monostat protects turbocharged gas units from poor removal of combustion products due to a clogged chimney or heat exchanger.
  • The limit thermostat is designed to control the temperature of the coolant in a heating installation. When the water boils, the overheating sensor turns off the device.
  • The flame control electrode, when detecting its absence, turns off the operation of the heating unit.
  • The blast valve serves to control the pressure. When the pressure rises above a critical value, excess coolant is discharged in batches.

The “Immergas Nike Mythos 24 3 R” model has the following overall dimensions - 440x751x240 mm (WxHxD), while the weight is 24.2 kg. It is mounted on the wall, which is convenient and saves space in the room.

Operating principle and main parameters. The convection type of device involves the generation of heat by combustion of gas, while the boiler operates on natural gas (methane, flow rate 2.78 cubic meters per hour) and liquefied gas (propane-butane mixture, flow rate 2.08 kg/hour).

To obtain the declared power of 23.6 kW, the natural gas pressure must be at 20 mbar, and the permissible liquefied gas pressure must be 37 mbar; when these parameters decrease, the thermal power will also drop. ExpertKotel.ru reminds that most often in domestic networks the pressure is 12-20 mbar. The efficiency of the installation, with these indicators, is at a good level and amounts to 89.8%.

Heating of water and coolant in pipes. This boiler is capable of producing 11.1 l/min of hot water (t=30°C). The coolant temperature is 38-85°C, and in the hot water supply circuit, respectively, 30-60°C.

The expansion tank compensates for the expansion of the coolant in the pipes during heating and releases it back into the system when cooling. This maintains constant pressure in the circuit.

The circulation pump is designed to circulate coolant (water, antifreeze) through the heating circuit; it is a mandatory component of a closed-type heating system; in our case, the pump is included.

Fuel economy

Automatic ignition (Electric ignition) allows the Immergas Nike Mythos 24 3 R to start and extinguish the burner if necessary by the algorithm, which saves fuel.

Modulation of the burner flame smoothly regulates the intensity of the fuel supply and decreases or increases the flame, and this reduces gas consumption.

Management and control

The gas boiler “Immergas Nike Mythos 24 3 R” is electronically controlled, equipped with a display and has a port for connecting additional devices (usually programmers, thermostats, room remote controls, etc.). The advantage of the electronic system is that it does not require the constant presence of a person and can significantly save fuel (as described above), the disadvantage is that it is more complex than a mechanical one and depends on voltage drops (it can fail during surges).

Thermometer and pressure gauge. A thermometer is necessary to control the temperature of the coolant in the boiler, and a pressure gauge shows the pressure of the coolant; this is an important parameter, because exceeding it can lead to breakdown of individual parts or the system as a whole.

Protection systems

Gas control is a useful and necessary function of the burner; if the flame goes out for any reason, it stops the gas supply automatically.

The “Immergas Nike Mythos 24 3 R” safety valve stabilizes the water pressure in the circuit when an unsafe limit is reached.

Protection against freezing of the coolant automatically turns on the burner for a short time when the water temperature drops to a critical level and there is a risk of heating defrosting. It is worth remembering that for this there must be gas and electricity.

Protection against overheating of the coolant turns off the burner if an abnormal water temperature value is detected.

Protection against pump blocking is activated when the boiler installation is idle for a long time; in this case, the pump turns on for a while and turns itself off. This is necessary in summer when the heating circuit is not activated.

For power supply, a 220 volt network with a pure sine wave and grounding is required.

Autonomous operation

When using an uninterruptible power supply, the “Immergas Nike Mythos 24 3 R” will function even with the electricity turned off (example in the table below). This is useful when it is necessary to prevent defrosting in winter, or simply to maintain heat and hot water supply.

Why does the pressure in the boiler drop?

The main reason for the pressure drop is coolant leakage.

Various reasons may be involved here:

  • The boiler drain valve or one of the system radiators is open. If this happens, the coolant is constantly removed from the system, which causes a drop in pressure. The solution to the problem is obvious - close the tap, or repair it.
  • A leak has appeared and the coolant is leaking into it. This case is much more difficult, since the leak cannot be detected immediately. Sometimes it is found only by wet spots on the floor or ceiling of neighbors. A detected leak is immediately eliminated by replacing the pipeline or the problematic radiator.
  • Failure of the expansion tank membrane. In such a situation, the pressure drop continues only until the entire volume of the tank is completely filled with liquid. After this, the pressure stabilizes for a short time and then begins to increase to a critical value. These signs are usually used to identify the problem. The solution is to replace the expansion tank (or repair it if possible).

Problem solving

Let's look at ways to solve the most common problems:

  • 01. This error was discussed above and is a consequence of gas supply failures or incorrect power connections.
  • 03. Problem with the smoke exhaust sensor or thermostat. Check the functionality and connection; in difficult cases, replace the sensor.
  • 04. Lack of standard load resistance at the terminals. Clean the contacts and check the connecting wires.
  • 10. The heating circuit pressure has dropped. The error indicates a lack of coolant, the need to replenish the system and eliminate leaks.
  • 11. Problems with the smoke pressure thermostat. Check the operation of the fan or the condition of the chimney.
  • 27. Low circulation rate. The condition of the circulation pump should be checked. Particular attention should be paid to the impeller blades, which are made of plastic and can fail.
  • 28. Leakage in the DHW circuit. Check the taps, connections, inspect the water taps - perhaps a tap has been left open somewhere. You should also pay attention to kitchen or plumbing fixtures connected to the hot water supply - perhaps the cause of the leak lies there.
  • 31. Incompatibility or failure of the electronic control board. The culprit here could be either a software failure that requires reflashing the board, or a purely mechanical failure, burnout of microcircuits due to a power surge, etc. Replacing the control board is an expensive procedure, so you should protect it as much as possible from external influences (install a voltage stabilizer) .

How to clean the heat exchanger

Beretta boilers are equipped with either separate or bithermal (combined) heat exchangers. In the first case, flushing gives a greater effect; the second type of heat exchangers is difficult to flush due to the design features.

There are two washing methods:

  • Mechanical. Requires disconnecting the heat exchanger from the boiler. The results of such washing are not particularly successful, since it is extremely difficult to clean the internal surfaces mechanically.
  • Chemical. Does not require dismantling the heat exchanger, but is done using a special device. It has a fairly high efficiency, is able to eliminate scale and extend the service life of the unit.

For washing, special reagents are used to dissolve scale and remove it from the internal cavity of the heat exchanger tubes. The procedure should be performed every 2-3 years, depending on the quality of the water. To carry out the work, you must invite a specialist from the service center.

Repair and operation

Many modifications of boilers have an LCD screen; error codes are always displayed on it if they occur. The codes can be quickly deciphered by simply looking at the instructions included with the specific gas unit.

Fault code 16, which means the fan does not turn on, indicates that the circuit is open. To do the repair yourself, you need to diagnose the fan, subsequently repair the circuit, and routinely tighten the contacts, and then all problems with the boiler will be solved.

To do this, press the Reset key. This happens after a long period of equipment downtime. All that remains is to bleed excess air from the system and restart the ignition.

Condensing boilers are much more expensive than conventional models (2-3 times), however, they are able to fully function only on low-temperature heating systems such as underfloor heating and with a difference in air temperatures outside and inside the room of no more than 20°, which is unrealistic in Russian conditions.

By type of combustion chamber:

  • Atmospheric. Combustion air is taken directly from the room, and smoke is removed using natural draft.

Each season has its own regime

Modern boilers are very easy to adjust a variety of parameters, including the intensity of fuel combustion. This function was introduced for a reason, but to prevent excessive fuel consumption due to clocking. It is recommended to choose your own regime for each season:
