Rednasty November 2, 2016I'm not a wizard, I'm just learning. But I know everything about interior styles, comfortable home improvement and the transformation of Khrushchev’s apartments into luxury apartments. Hobbies: I like to give good advice.

The dacha is a truly cozy place where you want to return again and again!

In our realities, large investments in dacha repairs look quite unproductive. On the one hand, is it worth spending a lot on furnishing a home in which we spend at most several months? On the other hand, no one can cancel the completely reasonable desire for a cozy place in their “country estate”.

Decorating a country house can look simple and neat

If you are interested in simple materials and budget solutions that can improve and decorate your dacha, then this article is definitely for you. In it, I will analyze the main inexpensive methods of wall cladding and share several creative options for creating an original country interior.

Plywood finishing for painting and wallpaper

Finishing walls with plywood
In apartments and houses with constant heating, plasterboard is often used to level the walls. The slabs have a smooth surface and it is enough to putty only the joints and dents from the screws under the wallpaper. Large sheets can be attached directly to the walls if they are level. Gypsum does not allow air to pass through well and swells from moisture. Therefore, for an unheated dacha, the walls of which are made of logs, it must be laid in several layers, according to a sliding pattern. Plaster and protective paint eliminate the term “inexpensive.”

Vadik is a mathematician. He considered the possible options. We finished some of the rooms at his aunt's dacha as a block house. Dense pressed wood is not afraid of temperature changes and moisture. Protective impregnations are introduced into the composition during manufacturing. For internal cladding, you need to take panels with a small profile.

Wall decoration with plywood for painting or wallpaper

In the bedrooms, at the request of a relative, we finished them with acrylic paint. We used plywood. It is made of several layers of veneer directed perpendicularly. This eliminates warping. At the same time, the material is a good heat insulator. Withstands wall deformation. Can be mounted without a frame.

The ends of the cut sheets were coated with a protective antipyrine mixture. Now moisture will not penetrate. The top was primed. The joints and screw heads were filled with putty. White primer was used under the paint.

Floor finishing

The main work on finishing the floor was done while creating the foundation; the final interior work is best done at the end of the interior arrangement. The choice of flooring depends on the type of building. For example, in a brick house with concrete floors there are no restrictions on the choice of material; here you can use both ceramic tiles and parquet or any other materials.

If the house and floors are made of wood, then it is best to use boards, laminate, parquet or linoleum. It is better not to use ceramic tiles, stone and similar materials. The limitation is due to the fact that the design of a wooden floor has its own characteristics. If desired, ceramic tiles with a heated floor system can also be installed on a wooden floor, however, there is no guarantee that the floor will not warp, in addition, the reliability and service life of such a floor will be a big question.

Economy class interior

In order to create a soulful country interior, you can use the following rules:

  1. Using unnecessary things. You can make new upholstery for furniture, paint a table, combine new furniture with old. Decorate a simple closet using decoupage.
  2. You can buy things second hand cheaper on platforms or in discount stores.
  3. There is no need to skimp on the quality of finishing and then the house will look good with simple furniture.
  4. High-quality textiles will hide all imperfections; they can also be changed without significant damage to the budget.
  5. Give preference to plastic and artificial stone, paper wallpaper, artificial rattan and PVC film coating of facades, which imitates the texture of wood.

Peculiarities

The design of the ceiling depends on the room to be finished. Decorating a city apartment differs from decorating a dacha. We spend a lot of time in the house and the disadvantages of finishing will not go unnoticed. Here it is appropriate to comply with the entire chain of the technological cycle. To prepare the surface of the upper floor, you need to take a more careful approach to the choice of color and texture; special importance is attached to the types of decor.

Finishing work at the dacha depends on the conditions of use of the country house - whether the room is heated or used only in the summer, whether low temperatures and humidity will affect the ceiling covering material. A universal solution would be to sheathe the ceiling with wood if lath cladding is used in the design of the dacha. This ceiling will last for many years and, if necessary, you can simply paint it in the desired color.

When giving preference to one or another ceiling covering option, you need to take into account the size of the room. The ceiling on suspended structures will remove 5-10 centimeters of height; in low rooms it is better to paint or wallpaper the plaster. On the contrary, the dimensions of a narrow and high room can be balanced by lowering the suspension structure to the desired height. In attic rooms, up to two meters of height can be removed in this way to decorate the room in a traditional style.

The use of color and different levels in the design of the ceiling allows you to zone the room and visually influence the dimensions. A cross beam made of wood or a protruding plane of plasterboard will divide the space and expand the boundaries of the walls of a long narrow room. The same effect can be achieved if the transverse stripe is made in a contrasting color.

Dark colors should be used with caution when tinting the ceiling. They weigh down the upper part of the space

This technique is acceptable when decorating the walls with very light or white colors and the room is of sufficient height.

Some types of ceiling finishing work can be done independently; for more complex finishes it is better to invite specialists. To implement a designer exclusive ceiling, design documentation is drawn up, a design plan is drawn, a wiring and lighting diagram is drawn, and tinting sketches are prepared in relation to a specific object. Such design work is not cheap, there will be costs for high-quality materials and payment for the work of specialists, but as a result you become the owner of a unique ceiling that will surprise guests and decorate your home.

How to choose the perfect wall decoration for your dacha

For many, a dacha is a place of serene relaxation, so the atmosphere in a dacha house should be appropriate, cozy and comfortable. The quality of wall decoration in rooms plays a big role in creating comfort. Several decades ago, the choice of facing materials was extremely limited. In most cases, the walls were plastered and then painted or wallpapered. Today, the range of materials for finishing walls in a country house is so wide that it is sometimes difficult to make a choice. The stores offer everything you might need to bring your original design to life.

When deciding on a finishing option, first of all pay attention to what the walls themselves are made of. This will largely determine the final choice of facing materials. In addition, a number of other important factors need to be taken into account.

  1. Seasonality factor . If the cottage is used exclusively in the warm season, then it most likely does not have a heating system. Then you need to make a choice in favor of materials that can easily withstand high humidity and low temperatures.
  2. Style factor . Different colors, materials and patterns suit different styles.
  3. Time factor . Some people like to completely update their interior every few years. In this case, it is better to choose materials that are easy to clean and inexpensive to buy. If you belong to the category of more conservative people who do everything “to last,” then opt for high-quality finishes that will last for many years.
  4. Preparation factor . Decorating walls in a country house requires the same balanced approach as cladding walls in a city apartment or cottage. You need to accurately calculate the amount of material so as not to waste extra time and money buying what you need, or, conversely, to rack your brains about where to put the remaining unspent materials.
  5. Order factor . Finishing the walls at the dacha is a cosmetic repair, so it is done last, after the rough repairs have been completed.

Materials for finishing the interior of a country house

If you want to give your country house a new look, there are several ways to achieve this. First of all, make a small plan of what exactly you would like to change, then figure out which materials will best achieve this.

Drywall for a budget country house interior

One of the options for major finishing of your house. You can use gypsum boards, which come in two types.

The first is dry plaster, which consists directly of gypsum covered with cardboard on both sides. To make the material more porous, a foaming agent is additionally added. The material is often used to decorate the walls and ceilings of country houses.

Drywall for country interior

The second option is GVL. The material already contains not only gypsum, but also reinforced fiber pressed with cellulose fibers. This version of drywall will be stronger, but correspondingly more expensive. GVL itself is moisture resistant, it can be driven into with nails, and can also be machined.

Plywood - a budget idea for a cottage interior

Quite a popular material, because working with it is very simple. It is inexpensive, and if you take care of it, it will last a long time.

The material itself consists of several layers of fiberboard, which can be simply moisture resistant, or have a higher category of moisture resistance.

Plywood in an economical country interior

If you line the walls of your dacha with plywood, they will “breathe” and create a very favorable microclimate in the house itself.

Additionally, the material has thermal insulation properties, as well as a soundproof effect. Plywood can be varnished, stained, painted and covered with wallpaper.

Plastic panels in the interior of a summer house

They are also very often used in finishing country houses. They are mainly laminated or with photo printing. They can be universal, because laminated ones are more suitable for conservatives and connoisseurs of the classics. And the second option will please creative people who love something original.

How to choose the material for interior wall decoration in a country house with occasional residence

If your dacha is not used year-round, then pay attention to the material from which the walls themselves are made. The finishing of the walls in the dacha will depend on this.

Take the test

  • Brick walls . The advantage of brick walls is that they make it possible to use any materials to decorate the walls in the country house. An effective and stylish option is wet plaster. This is what they call a classic of the genre. If the house does not have heating, then it is necessary to take into account that condensation will form on the plaster. This cannot be avoided, but you can use moisture-resistant plaster.
  • Walls made of foam concrete blocks . Foam concrete is distinguished by its ability to absorb moisture, and this property must be taken into account. Foam concrete blocks must be pre-treated with several layers of deep penetration primer to reduce the porosity of the material. The blocks are then coated with gypsum plaster and finally a vapor barrier paint is applied.
  • Aerated concrete walls . Walls made of aerated concrete are sheathed with clapboard, then covered with gypsum plaster or plasterboard slabs. If winter is long in your area, then provide a layer of thermal insulation material.
  • Frame walls . The walls must be sheathed with multilayer oriented strand boards. This is done to increase the strength of the structure, its moisture and heat resistance. For final finishing use paint or wallpaper.
  • Walls made of profiled or laminated timber . To cover such walls, wall panels, plasterboard and lath materials are used. This increases sound and heat insulation. Walls made of natural wood are usually not covered with wallpaper or paint; transparent materials such as wax or varnish are used. However, in some cases, the design idea involves the use of finishing materials. But remember - wooden structures shrink, so do not rush to cover the walls with finishing until this process is complete.
  • Log walls, rounded timber . Also, as a rule, they are left in their original form.

Wallpaper in the interior

The simplest option for finishing can be called wallpaper, because they are really used everywhere.

Bamboo wallpaper is perfect for a country house, as it will create a feeling of unity with nature.

This is a rather expensive type of interior decoration, so if you want to save money, buy something simpler: vinyl, non-woven lining, liquid wallpaper, etc.

The last of these types can be called the most modern.

Liquid wallpaper has found its application in apartments and private houses, and they will not be superfluous in the interior of dachas.

Wallpaper will look harmonious in the living room, bedroom, hallway, but in the kitchen and bathroom it is better to use more durable materials that can withstand specific conditions.

Country interior styles

The use of styles is relevant not only for houses, but also for country interiors. The most commonly used styles are: Provence, country, Scandinavian, chalet and modern.

Provence

A country house interior in Provence style is suitable for the summer version. Special light furnishings, a fireplace, thoughtful decorative elements such as tufts of lavender, floral embroidery, cafe curtains, ruffles and china would be appropriate here.

Country

Country or rustic style is very popular among summer residents because of its specificity. Characterized by simplicity, wooden finishes, natural colors, checkered or embroidered textiles, flowers in pots. Only the necessary furniture is used: table, sofa, bed, armchairs or chairs. To complete the style, a functioning stove is suitable. The wooden beam is not hidden, but looks natural, as in the photo.

The photo shows a country-style kitchen, which is suitable for a country interior and features characteristic wooden windows. A ceramic countertop is of great practicality.

Scandinavian style

Scandinavian country interior does not involve storing urban furniture and other unnecessary things. It is characterized by restraint in decor, wooden trim and furniture, and calm tones.

A chalet-style interior can only be created in a country house interior with a fireplace and finishing made of logs and stone. It should look like a spacious shepherd's dwelling, so there is animalistic decor, protruding canopies, an attic made of timber, rough and wicker furniture, handmade textiles, and pottery.

The first floor is dedicated to the living room and kitchen, while the second floor houses the bedrooms. For finishing, protective varnish, wood whitening agent or plaster of natural shades are used.

The photo shows a country interior in the style of an Alpine chalet, which combines rough country and minimalist style.

Modern style

A country house interior in a modern style involves finishing with brick or stone, painting and wallpaper are also used. The furniture used is modern and functional without unnecessary frills. Minimalistic decor, a fireplace, a small table, neutral and rich shades create a modern country interior.

Finishing work for floors

For a summer residence, protection from moisture and subzero temperatures is important. Therefore, the base coating here should still be a rigid concrete screed poured onto a porous base (expanded clay, and a reinforcement grid on top of it). Linoleum, laminate, and board fit perfectly on such a base.

Finishing the floor with laminate is an excellent solution if the material is chosen with moisture-resistant properties. But if they live at the dacha permanently, which means they regularly maintain a normal level of humidity, then it is permissible to lay cheap laminate flooring. The material is presented on the market in a wide range (like linoleum or tile).

Laying the floor with parquet boards is expensive, but reliable. In addition, parquet is easier to restore than plank flooring. But you need to understand that parquet requires more careful care than other popular types of flooring. In addition, after laying the dies, the surface must be sanded many times and then polished. That's why such floors are not cheap.

Laying tiles may be a good solution. This is especially suitable for dachas with private use, where guests often come or a large family lives. Such a floor is easier to wash, and more than one hundred times. A warm floor is often built under the tiles.

Preparatory stage

  • First of all, clear the floor of all things and objects, dirt and dust. Inspect the rafters and sheathing, perhaps repair them, re-impregnate all the wood with products to protect it.
  • To prevent it from being hot on the second floor in summer and cold in winter - when using the attic floor in winter, you need to insulate the roof before covering it internally.
  • Before laying insulation (mineral wool, for example) under the roof, do not forget to lay a waterproofing layer under the roofing layer, and after laying the insulation, provide an anti-condensation film (vapor barrier).
  • We also insulate the floor accordingly. The technology and sequence of work, the materials used are described in detail in the article - how to insulate a floor.

Finishing options by type of cottage

As previously noted, country houses are now being built from a variety of materials, and therefore their external decoration is different. That is why it is worth considering the most popular options for country houses and the cladding that will suit them.

Houses made of timber

Undoubtedly, wood is considered a classic and one of the best materials for building a country house. So, I would like to immediately note that the exterior decoration of a country house made of timber can be carried out only after the structure has completely settled. And this happens after 2 - 3 years from the date of completion of construction work.

The greatest interest of owners of country houses made of timber is caused by such materials for external finishing as stone, decorative plaster, wood and even metal. Many do not deviate from the traditional design and line the outside of the dacha with clapboard.

This approach has its advantages:

  1. Reliability and durability of cladding.
  2. Decorative appearance.
  3. Ecological cleanliness.
  4. Possibility of masking communications under external decoration.
  5. Easy installation that you can do yourself.

In addition to natural wood, artificial analogues can also be used, which will be cheaper, but will not be inferior in appearance. So, for example, siding helps to provide a decent cladding of a country house and forget about painting it for a long time.

In addition to siding, fiber cement boards and thermal panels are often used for the exterior decoration of country houses. It is worth noting that such panels are used only if the building has a strong and reliable foundation. But, nevertheless, siding is used most often due to the availability of the material, ease of installation and high quality of the resulting cladding.

In some cases, especially when the owner dreams of seeing his house in brick design, brick is used. It is fireproof, environmentally friendly and visually attractive, which become the starting criteria when choosing. In addition, the use of brick for the exterior design of a house made of timber will increase the heat and sound insulation qualities of the structure.

Important! Brick trim may shrink. If brick is used as the cladding of a wooden house, then it is important to make ventilation grilles that will be located at a distance of 2 - 3 meters from each other

It is necessary to connect a wooden wall to a brick wall only with the help of metal elements. Many are stopped by the cost of such finishing, which is significantly higher than other similar methods.

Finishing a house made of aerated concrete

Country houses are not only made of wood, as was previously the case in most cases. Nowadays, a material such as aerated concrete is widespread, which is successfully used in the construction of country houses.

Typically, such houses are plastered or brick and tile are used for their exterior decoration.

Important! The external decoration of the walls of an aerated concrete country house is carried out only after the completion of interior finishing work. This is necessary so that vapors can escape through the walls without restrictions.

Ordinary plaster is unlikely to be suitable for covering the outside walls of a country house. Professionals advise choosing mixtures that have water-repellent properties.

For those who want to finish a country house made of aerated concrete in the shortest possible time, we can suggest doing it with porcelain stoneware slabs. They are attached to the sheathing or to perfectly smooth walls using an adhesive solution.

Nowadays, an increasing number of summer residents are choosing a metal profile for the exterior design of their house, which previously served as a finishing material for warehouses. Manufacturers now offer a lot of varieties of metal profiles, so choosing the right one is not difficult at all. Moreover, this material is perfect for both vertical and horizontal finishing.

How to insulate walls in a dacha before finishing

Many people ask the question: why is it necessary to insulate the walls of a dacha from the inside? Firstly, this will make the dacha more comfortable, since even in summer the weather is not always pleasant with sun and heat. Secondly, high-quality thermal insulation allows you to significantly save on heating costs. There are many options for thermal insulation for a summer house, let's focus on one of the popular ones - foam insulation.

To rough-finish the walls in your dacha with polystyrene foam you will need:
  • sheet foam;
  • clamps;
  • special glue;
  • plastic nails;
  • façade primer;
  • building level;
  • hammer;
  • metal mesh for reinforcement;
  • Decoration Materials;
  • aluminum corners;
  • hammer drill

The technology of work is relatively simple and can be performed even by a non-professional. Do-it-yourself decoration of the walls at the dacha inside is done in the following order:

  1. Check the evenness of the walls with a level and prime the surface.
  2. Apply special glue to the foam using a notched spatula. Next, the polymer slab is pressed against the wall, and alignment is performed using construction markers and a level.
  3. After waiting until the glue has completely dried, the foam is additionally fixed. To do this, use a hammer drill to drill holes through the foam. Then the sheets are attached plas.
  4. To align and secure the corners, use aluminum corners.
  5. At the top of the wall, a reinforcing mesh is fixed to nails, glue is applied to it with a spatula and the entire wall is reinforced.
  6. For finishing priming, facade primer is used, and the finishing of the walls is made of marble chips, finishing plaster, tiles or paint.
  7. Insulation of walls in a dacha must be done with high quality - this will allow you to significantly save on energy resources, be it electricity, firewood, gas or something else.

It is easy to understand that, due to the technological features of a country house, the lion's share of heat loss falls on the walls - this figure is almost 40%. When choosing a material for thermal insulation, consider the following characteristics:

  • environmental friendliness;
  • reliability.

To insulate the inside of a house, the material must be as safe and non-toxic as possible. Heat insulators made from basalt are well suited for brick walls. They can be in rolls or in the form of slabs. Expanded polystyrene materials belong to the “economy” price category.

You can also use tile or rolled mineral wool for thermal insulation. A good option for internal thermal insulation finishing is a multi-layer “pie”, inside of which communications are laid. The vapor permeability of this design is very high, and for strength it is attached to the walls with special glue. The “pie” consists of the following layers:

  • interior finishing material;
  • slats for utility networks;
  • a layer of vapor barrier material;
  • insulation layer;
  • wall material;
  • external insulation;
  • facade finishing.

Decorating the inside of the house with wood with your own hands

One of the original finishing options that allows you to give the walls the appearance of natural wood is the use of special wood wallpaper, which is made from various types of wood.

In terms of installation method, they are practically no different from ordinary wallpaper, requiring only the use of a special adhesive. But not everyone can afford such pleasure.

A more popular way to decorate a house with wood is to install a block house; this option will cost you little and has an aesthetic appearance.

Before installing it, it is necessary to keep the material indoors for 2 days. During this time, you can prepare the wall - if it is not level, you should level it with plaster. After this, a wooden frame is constructed from the bars to install the block house.

The installation of the block house is carried out from floor to ceiling; during the process, the material is attached to the frame with self-tapping screws, screwing them into the base of the tenon, which is equipped with each individual element of the product. The boards of the block house are connected to each other using the tenon-to-groove principle.

Upon completion of installation work, the surface can be coated with clear varnish or varnish with stain.

Finishing the second floor in a private house

Two-story houses are not only practical, but also beautiful. When choosing the method and materials for finishing the second floor, you should familiarize yourself with some advice from professional builders. The architecture of the attic can amaze the imagination with its non-standard and originality.

Before decorating the attic of a private house, you need to get acquainted with the features of facing work. Photos of the decoration of the second floor in a private house will help you choose a more suitable room design.

Possible material options

Let's look at a few.

Wooden lining

The most popular material for finishing the interior of a summer house.

Advantages: environmental friendliness, ease of installation, thermal insulation, aesthetic appearance.

Disadvantages: high cost, fire hazard.

Wooden lining, OSB panels, Block house

The price depends on the tree, variety and size. The cheapest option: spruce-pine, calm - 170-230 rubles/m².

OSB boards

More budget-friendly, from waste from the woodworking industry.

Advantages: good vapor permeability, moisture resistance, resists wall shrinkage, easy to install.

Disadvantages: contains formaldehyde, when cut it forms fine dust, so it must be installed in a respirator, it burns.

The average price is 150 rubles/m².

Block house

Suitable for use in unheated rooms.

Advantages: environmental friendliness, aesthetic appearance, average cost.

Disadvantages: difficult installation.

Plastic lining

Budget replacement of wooden lining.

Advantages: moisture resistance, practicality, ease of installation, does not require additional finishing, low cost.

Disadvantages: cheap materials do not look beautiful.

Until now, they are used only for finishing bathroom units. The price range is wide. Depends on the class, size, manufacturer, decorative coating and a number of other parameters.

Domestic and Chinese manufacturers of economy class PVC panels will cost up to 150 rubles per piece. Imported premium class - from 220 rubles and above.

Plastic lining, Drywall, Plywood

Drywall

This material will allow you to properly trim the walls and install thermal insulation.

Advantages: speed and ease of installation, masking of wiring and various communications, the ability to implement various design solutions.

Disadvantages: reduces usable area, unstable to mechanical stress, need for putty, low vapor permeability.

The cost of the material depends on the manufacturer, size, fire and moisture resistant properties. Thus, simple sheets of domestically produced drywall can be bought for 150 rubles. But if you take into account the quality, the price is cheaper than 300 rubles, should alert you. In addition, profiles and finishing must be included in the price.

Plywood

Budget option for summer cottages.

Advantages: water resistance, environmental friendliness, aesthetic appearance; easy installation.

The average cost of moisture resistant is 150 rubles/m².

PVC panels

How to decorate the attic from the inside to save money and time? Plastic panels! The advantages of using them:

  • versatility;
  • ease of installation;
  • moisture resistance;
  • resistance to temperature fluctuations;
  • a large assortment;
  • ease of care.

Of course, they cannot be compared with wood or plywood in terms of strength or sound insulation. But with careful handling they will last for more than one year.

The panel widths are:

  • Narrow. 10-12 cm. The so-called plastic lining. This is a simple option for replacing painted wooden lining - it will cost less and you won’t have to waste time on painting.
  • Standard. 25-50 cm. There are two ways to apply a design to PVC - offset and thermal printing. The first option is more expensive, but more reliable due to varnish coating. Thermally printed panels are cheaper and have a wider range, but the design may fade or lose brightness over time.
  • Wide. 80-200 cm. With the help of sheet panels you will speed up the repair process, because their installation is much faster than any other type.

The photo shows a combination of wide and standard panels

Wood finish

The interior decoration of a house with wood is attractive in many ways:

  • Natural, environmentally friendly, breathable material that maintains the required level of humidity and temperature.
  • High decorative qualities, allowing you to create a harmonious interior of a country house.
  • Durable, easy to use.

Lining or blockhouse made from various types of wood can be used when decorating rooms, taking into account their purpose:

  • Coniferous species (pine, cedar, larch, spruce) are not suitable for finishing a kitchen, bathroom, sauna or bathhouse, as well as a fireplace area, walls or heated floors. This is due to the fact that when heated, such wood releases resin. But such wood is ideal for decorating living rooms, since the phytoncides it produces help fight viral diseases.
  • Ash is not suitable for rooms with high humidity.
  • Beech and linden, on the contrary, are not afraid of moisture and are excellent for finishing kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways.
  • Oak is universal, and thanks to its high strength and decorative properties, it can be used for finishing walls and floors in almost any room.
  • Maple has high decorative qualities, is easily tinted and can imitate more valuable varieties, so it is excellent for decorating walls in living rooms and dining rooms.

Lining

Lining is a traditional material that is used for finishing walls and ceilings in wooden houses. It has a number of advantages:

  • Easy to install. Modern lining has special fastenings that facilitate installation and ensure durability of the coating, smooth and aesthetic seams.
  • Aesthetic appearance and the ability to choose the right size and type of wood.
  • Strength. This material is suitable for cladding walls on which shelves, cabinets, etc. will subsequently be hung.
  • Affordable cost (depending on the class of material).

Externally, lining is usually divided into classes, determined by the number of defects per 1.5 linear meters:

  1. A - up to one crack (not through) or knot is allowed.
  2. B - contrasting areas are allowed, up to 4 knots, 2 resin pockets.
  3. C - the presence of contrasting areas, stripes, up to 2 knots no larger than 2.5 cm in size and resin pockets up to 5 cm are allowed.

The width of the lining is easy to select the desired size. The lamellas can be 13-19 mm thick (imported manufacturers) and 12-25 mm (domestic). The width is most often 80-110 mm.

The lining can be flat (standard), rounded (softline), of different widths at the edges (American), or embossed. Due to this, you can achieve all kinds of decorative effects on the surface of the walls.

You can mount the lining on the walls horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and also combine several methods at once, creating an impressive coating.

Additionally you can:

  • Carry out degumming by treating the softwood lining with a 25% acetone solution.
  • Treatment with a solution of hydrogen peroxide mixed with ammonia will help make the lining lighter.
  • Cover with varnish (semi-matte or matte). First, apply one layer of varnish, dry it, sand the surface with sandpaper, and then apply another layer of varnish.
  • Paint with a tinted antiseptic or water-based paint.

Block house

A blockhouse or clapboard with a semicircular outer side is ideal for finishing log houses, especially old ones that are in dire need of interior renovation. Such cladding best emphasizes the style of a wooden home, and in addition, helps maintain an optimal microclimate in it.

The standard thickness of a blockhouse used for interior work is 20-25 mm; thicker slats will require the installation of more powerful lathing and will “eat up” a significant area of the room.

The blockhouse has all the same advantages as conventional lining, but is more decorative. In addition, with the help of a blockhouse, the ceiling in a wooden house is often finished, creating a single covering with the walls.

This material also has disadvantages:

  1. The blockhouse, like the lining, needs periodic updating (cleaning, painting, treatment with tinting compounds or varnish).
  2. Dust accumulates between the slats.
  3. High cost, especially for high-class materials or valuable wood species.

Choose one contractor! And let it be “Wood House Group”

When starting to search for a contractor, many homeowners ask themselves the question: should they entrust all the work to one contractor or entrust the solution of different tasks to several contractors? We believe that the first approach has obvious advantages, and here are just a few of the most important:

  • personal responsibility of the contractor for the final result;
  • guarantees backed by the letter of the law;

Why did my friend and I start studying materials?

Vadik and I each have several aunties who have no one to help except their nephews. At the beginning of spring, we began to prepare for the summer season. We need to start putting the dachas in order. The most labor-intensive work was finishing the walls inside. It is necessary to choose a material that allows the walls to breathe. It is advisable to maintain the design style.

The task was complicated by the fact that no one lived at the dacha in winter. The room was not heated. Our relatives could not spend a lot of money on decorating the inside. We will do the work ourselves, but the material must be purchased inexpensively. It is easier to choose a combination of price and quality than the cost of the material and its naturalness and environmental friendliness.

I told Vadik about different finishing materials for wooden houses. As a result, he compiled a table that can be used as a basis when choosing an option for covering wooden walls in a country house.

Natural materials are more expensive. Savings are achieved due to the lack of finishing of the walls after cladding. There is no need to plaster, glue or paint.

How to combine fantasy with lack of money?

Above, I reviewed the main finishing materials associated with inexpensive repairs at the dacha. They will help put the house in order and solve the issue of light insulation. But what to do when your soul demands a continuation of the banquet and wants something beautiful in a small country house?

A beautiful interior does not always require a lot of money

I will tell you how interesting it is to decorate a country house while spending a minimum of money.

Idea 1. The whole world is in colors

When considering the most popular options for decorating a room, it’s hard not to mention paint. This is one of the simplest ways to update your interior, which also allows you to experiment with colors and shades, and is in great demand all over the world. What do future painters and artists need to know?

Paint is one of the easiest ways to liven up your decor.

Painting wood or clapboard

  1. If you want to add a rich color to a wooden surface or paneling, but leave its interesting texture, purchase translucent paint.

Painted surface

  1. Exterior decoration should be decorated only with elastic paints that are not afraid of temperature changes (alkyd, oil). The inside of the room can be painted with water-dispersed or water-based compositions. It makes sense to use more expensive silicate or silicone paints only in conditions of very high humidity.

The photo shows an example when the paint only emphasizes the richness of the texture

  1. The interior walls must be thoroughly primed before painting; this will significantly reduce paint consumption.
  2. If after winter there is a strong feeling of dampness in the house, do not rush to use a brush or roller. First, you should dry the room thoroughly (with a hair dryer or a heat gun, for example).

Paint only dry walls

  1. You should definitely not even try to paint over areas where areas of rot and mold are firmly established . Believe me, after the repair work, the fungus will simply continue to destroy the coating. So first, get rid of the mold, dry the surface, sand it with sandpaper, treat it with an antiseptic and only then paint.

Reserve a little time and do everything as required. Believe me, the result will be worth it.

You need to get rid of the mold, and then you can move on to finishing.

Painting plaster or drywall

You can give plastered or plasterboard walls a more sophisticated look using acrylic water-based paint.

Acrylic-based water-based composition

  • For better adhesion of paint to the surface, do not skimp on primer. As a last resort (but only as a last resort), you can use a soap solution instead to remove grease and dust from the walls. But still, try to get a primer - with it the result will be more effective and reliable.

Painted plaster looks more than interesting

  • If there are small cracks on the surface and there is no plaster, you should resort to paint with latex filler. It can hide cracks up to 2 mm in size.
  • Don’t be afraid of the most “impractical” color in the interior – white. Firstly, white paint is the cheapest, and secondly, against a light background, any object will look bright and stylish. In addition, it will help to visually enlarge the room.

Don't be afraid to use white trim

Idea 2. To be wallpaper or not to be?

Wallpaper in the country is not only not uncommon, but the most popular type of decor. How to deal with them during the repair process? I will consider two possible options:

Wallpaper is a popular way to decorate rooms

  1. When the old wallpaper begins to peel off little by little, do not rush to tear it off (unless you have definitely decided to change the situation). If they peel off in whole sheets, then there is nothing to do, and you will have to remove everything and glue new ones. In the case where the canvas peels off only at the joints and in the corners, it is better to just carefully glue everything back together.

Think twice before tearing off old wallpaper: perhaps in a couple of years its pattern will be in trend

To keep the canvas stronger, add regular PVA glue to the wallpaper glue (in a ratio of 1 to 6).

  1. You have long ago decided to change the boring pattern, but in some areas the wallpaper seems to be stuck tightly. Run an iron through a piece of wet fabric to make it easier to remove the material.

Is the wallpaper difficult to remove? The iron will help in this matter!

For those who are thinking about wallpapering their country house, I’ll tell you a few tricks to save money:

  • look in the closet for wallpaper left over from the last renovation (some scraps will definitely be saved), ask relatives and friends about the same. As a result, you will be able to collect material for original decor in the “patchwork” style. Cover the wall in the room with scraps of different patterns and enjoy the unusual result;

Patchwork style wallpaper will become a bright spot in the interior of the cottage

It seems to me that patchwork style decor is better reserved for the 2nd floor; on the first floor you can experiment with painting

Thus, you can decorate only one wall, otherwise it will turn out too colorful. For others, painting or wallpaper in neutral shades is fine.

Wallpaper can be combined in different ways

  • Most often in specialized stores you can find baskets with so-called “sale” wallpaper, left over from unsold collections of one or two rolls. The price of their assortment is much standard; all you have to do is select and combine several models by color and texture;

You can create good combinations from the remaining unsold rolls

  • decorating the inside of a country house is primarily associated with the cheapest paper wallpaper. Well, for one or two seasons they will do just fine. After the allotted time, their appearance will be far from the original.

I would still advise you to resort to using two-layer paper wallpaper - the difference in price is not so noticeable, but they will last longer.

To save money, do not choose wallpaper with large patterns. Due to the fact that you will have to adjust the details of the design, there will be more waste. The ideal option is a small abstract pattern.

Pleasant interior of a country house

Idea 3. Not Italian, but still tiles

Tile is another worthy material for budget renovation. I'm not talking about Italian ceramics; there are many cheaper examples in stores. Again you have at least 2 options:

And again the already familiar patchwork, but now made of tiles

  • buy the required amount of tiles and decorate the kitchen or even the inside of an outdoor shower with it;
  • again, scrape along the bottom and use the found remains to decorate the selected surface in patchwork style.

Decorating an outdoor bathroom

Idea 4. Reminder from the past - wall newspaper

An even cheaper replacement for wallpaper can be (so you might think) ordinary newspaper strips. Glue them like a regular paper covering, and open the top with varnish. The main advantage of this option is that over time it will look even more interesting and atmospheric.

Why not newspapers?

Geography on the walls

By the same principle, you can use old geographical maps or book pages (although I really don’t approve of the second option).

Additional options

If you think that I’m done listing all sorts of inexpensive ways to decorate a summer house, then you’re wrong. I still have a few interesting ideas left:

  1. Perforated comfort. A couple of perforated metal sheets are a great way to conveniently store pans and knives in the country. If they also cover the unevenness on the wall, so much the better.

Hooks, perforated metal sheet - and the place for storing pans is ready

  1. We don't throw away boxes. Several old boxes attached to the wall can create a fairly spacious and convenient shelving unit. Both practical and useful for decoration!
  2. Nowhere without textiles. Another simple way to hide flaws in wall decoration is to cover it with a large panel made of beautiful fabric, felt or a cork roll (depending on what you find in the pantry).

If flaws cannot be eliminated, they can be hidden

I tried to select for you the most interesting and inexpensive options for arranging a summer house; even more ideas are contained in the video in this article.

Plastering methods

There are 3 main types of plastering:

- rough plaster - its purpose is to level the walls, prepare for subsequent decorative finishing. It is produced with cement mortars, which in most cases contain special improving additives. Such plaster can be applied to the surface of the outer wall manually or mechanically, and in case of significant unevenness it can be leveled using beacons as a rule. ‒ decorative plaster ‒ as the name implies, performs the function of beautifying the facade. It is a mixture containing special fillers. Apply it in a thin layer. There is a technology for spraying an ordinary cement composition onto the surface of the walls of a country house, which ultimately forms a texture reminiscent of a fur coat. - wet facade - the walls are covered with insulation (mineral mats, polystyrene foam), and the fasteners are doubled with dowels. Then a reinforcing fiberglass mesh is glued onto the insulated surface, which is covered with any type of decorative plaster and then painted.
