Country interior: 10 modern design ideas and 7 design mistakes

Nowadays, a country house is less and less associated with gardening work. Now this is a place for solitude from the bustle of the city. The interior of a country house is different from that of an apartment. Based on whether the building will be used in winter and what tasks it will have to perform, the interior is arranged.

Features of country buildings

The modern interior of a country house often resembles the design of city apartments. Today, house designs made from wooden materials are popular, although brick, cinder block and other options for building materials are no less often used.

The interior interior of the dacha may depend on the choice:

  • wooden walls can be left unfinished, and you will get a rustic-style room;
  • for a country house made of panels, an interior in a modern style using decorative plaster or paint is suitable;
  • The interior of a country house made of brick or cinder block requires serious finishing work.

For any country house you will need to prepare all surfaces of the walls, ceiling and floor. This is ensured by a full range of rough work, which involves leveling surfaces, as well as preparing them for the application or installation of finishing materials.

Decoration of rooms in the country house

Depending on the purpose of the room, there are certain rules for its design.

Kitchen

This room may be small in a country house. But at the same time, it has a basic set of tables and cabinets, as well as all the communications necessary for this room. It is decorated with painted plates, handmade items, curtains, tablecloths, and fresh flowers. A tabletop appropriate for a country house is made of wood, stone, or tile.

Living room

A fireplace in a rustic living room is the main attribute of the house. The interior may vary depending on the chosen style. You can use a large sofa with a massive table, carpets with antique furniture, large tableware, paintings.

Bedroom

On the second floor of a country house, as a rule, there is a bedroom. It is finished with plaster or wallpaper, and the timber is covered with a protective varnish. There must be a hinged wardrobe and chest of drawers. The wooden or metal bed is complemented by drawers in which it is convenient to store things or bedding.

Fireplaces, Russian stoves of a country house

Many designers make fireplaces or Russian stoves the center of the interior of a country house, which are gaining popularity again, displacing the gas and electric systems that replaced them not so long ago.

Among the advantages of such heating, experts note:

  • stoves and fireplaces look great in the interior of a country house in the living room, kitchen or bedroom;
  • they can be decorated in a rustic style or given a modern look to the design;
  • a fireplace can be made one of the design elements of a Russian stove for beauty, as well as efficient heating;
  • such systems do not require gas or electricity, and fuel is cheap.

For the interior of a country house, a fireplace will be simply an ideal option, since it becomes a practical element of the heating system, but also emphasizes the special atmosphere of a country home. This is precisely the detail that city apartment owners cannot afford, which is why a fireplace is very relevant in a dacha.

Facade painting

A traditional and economical type of design for the facade of a country house is painting. High-quality paint not only makes it look elegant, but also protects it from factors that adversely affect its preservation. Facade paint is used to finish walls using various materials, both natural and artificial. Usually a roller, brush or spray gun is used. Using the latter requires experience and skill. They are usually painted in 2 layers. Before painting, it is necessary to prime the facade.

Facade paints are divided into types:

  • water-based - they are elastic, allow gases and steam to pass through, and are virtually odorless. Within their group they are divided into:
  • acrylic - compatible with most surfaces, except those made of silicate and lime components;
  • latex - easy to apply, economical, dry quickly; silicone - highly elastic, able to self-clean, resist external negative factors, and vapor permeable;
  • acrylic-silicone - combine the best qualities of silicone and acrylic. Environmentally friendly, protect from natural and man-made influences, waterproof, vapor permeable, prevent the development of mold and fungi;
  • silicate - optimally suited for mineral surfaces, do not lose their original color for many years;
  • lime - these compounds are used on plastered facades and contain antiseptic substances;
  • cement - diluted with water before work, forming beautiful, durable, steam-permeable coatings;
  • paints with an organic base are good to use, but flammable and toxic;
  • oil-based - produced on the basis of drying oil, modern paints with an oil base have high adhesion and resistance to adverse influences, but they quickly fade in the sun;
  • alkyd - these enamels are characterized by durability and resistance to temperature changes, but the paints quickly fade and are defenseless against fire and alkalis.

Furnishing of premises

What is also typical for a country house is that for the furnishings inside they usually use old furniture, which is removed from the city apartment after being replaced with new ones.

This imposes some features of a country interior:

  • it represents a mixture of different styles in design;
  • Often people decorate the interior of their dacha with their own hands, making homemade furniture;
  • motley and varied design belongs to the kitschy style, and soft ones are simply called country style.

In a rustic style home, the veranda looks good, where an area for outdoor recreation is usually set up. Glazing the veranda is a good modern move to protect the room from the wind, but maintain an open view and a beautiful view of the picturesque courtyard.

Stove and fireplace in the interior

A fireplace and stove, in addition to their function of heating the room, serve as an excellent independent accent of the home. Therefore, if they are available, you should not clutter the country interior with additional decorative elements.

Fireplaces built into the wall are called open fireplaces. Closed - enclosed with heat-resistant glass and heat a large area. The fireplace is decorated with tiles, cast iron panels, and carvings.

A stove can become an original dacha element, which also perfectly heats a country house. The stove can be mobile, which allows it to be installed in any room, or it can be made stationary. It is cheaper than a fireplace and has an additional, undeniable advantage - you can cook food here.

Sleeping places and homemade furniture

Another feature of a country-style house is the need for additional sleeping places.

The interior of a country house is approached from a practical standpoint, first of all, which is why sofas are usually chosen as folding sofas, with the ability to expand the sofa to accommodate guests. This is required because quite a lot of people periodically gather at the dacha; relatives and friends come for weekends or holidays.

Furniture in a variety of styles will fit into the decor of a country house, and it is permissible to mix different styles to decorate the interiors of such a house. But wooden furniture looks best at the dacha, even if these are outdated options and models. It is only very important that the house is cozy and comfortable for everyone who lives in it from time to time, since the atmosphere should be relaxing and help you relax.

Video description

There are quite a lot of useful and unusual things that will come in handy at the dacha.
Example in the video: At the dacha you can show all your talents. For example, in carpentry. Make a bed with your own hands from scrap materials:

  • Old doors
  • Details of a disassembled cabinet
  • Wooden pallets
  • Runners from large sleighs, etc.

Instead of a heavy, dusty mattress at the dacha, an inflatable one would be appropriate. At the end of the season, simply deflate it and put it in a box. Craftsman blacksmiths can try to build a sleeping place out of metal with a beautiful twisted headboard. Another option is to hide the bed in a closet. It will extend and retract using gas lifts or hinges.

Handicrafts at the dacha are welcome. You can decorate the screen using decoupage technique. Embroider a picture with beads or cross stitch. Decorate the lampshade with beautiful fabric, woolen threads or lids from tin cans. For lovers of knitting, there will also be uses in the country: rugs, blankets, napkins, vases, cozy slippers. You can make a curtain between rooms with your own hands. To do this you need fishing line or thick thread, filler, glue and a cornice. String anything:

  • Beads
  • Rolled colored cardboard
  • Hollow pieces of wood
  • Buttons
  • Knitted balls
  • Shells, etc.

Any thing made with your own hands will add comfort and warmth to your country house interior.

Complementing the interior with handmade furniture

In a rustic style, a country house interior does not require serious financial investments - it does not make sense and is not rational.

If there is no old furniture that could be transported from the apartment to the country house, then you can try to make it yourself. Homemade structures in the house, including partitions or verandas, are also appropriate.

Homemade furniture does not look good in every style:

  • Provence is good for a bright and delicate country house;
  • Wooden structures look great with country style;
  • rustic style allows you to combine any furniture options;
  • very bright and unusual loft style for any room;
  • Scandinavian style will be bright and free.

A modern garden interior can be decorated with wooden finishing materials or stone. Loft allows you not to use finishing materials in some places, since this is a feature of the style.

Country interior styles

You can decorate the interiors of your dacha simply and tastefully or expensively and pretentiously, you can do it yourself, or you can turn to specialists for help. The designer, of course, will do everything professionally and ergonomically, but making a country house interior in a rustic style with your own hands or a delicate shabby chic in a cozy apartment is much more positive for the whole family. Let's consider what kind of country decor is most relevant for modern summer residents.

Provence – romance and sophistication

The design of a house in the Provence style is a romantic flair of France, pastel colors, special comfort and tenderness, felt in every detail. Decorating a dacha with your own hands is quite acceptable. Important qualities of the Provence style are the ability to refresh any apartment, as well as a low budget for even the most ornate interior.

The main color is white. A win-win combination is a white base fabric and the presence of wood-like attributes.

The key features of Provence in a dacha format include the following features:

  • White color and pastel colors.
  • Floral designs - simple and tasteful.
  • Decoration using only wooden furniture.
  • An abundance of all kinds of small details (bright non-functional textiles, painted plasters and small chests, vases and figurines).

The main rule: any decorative element should have a special French charm and a note of romanticism. As for color, it is important not to overdo it when choosing key shades. A good Provence is a pastel design based on one color (white, pink, azure).

Golden rules of Provence:

  1. Design in this style is always light and simple. “Rural glamor” is prohibited. Only old antique items are relevant.
  2. An economical option involves using only a minimum amount of furniture.
  3. Only light colors and natural materials are relevant.

The most popular decorative items are dishes in ethnic style, mirrors in aged wooden frames, candlesticks, stucco molding in a basic finish, and sculptures. Even the smallest house needs a careful approach to its design.

Country: all facets of comfort

Country is a rustic type of apartment design. Its wide design potential and extraordinary aesthetic abilities allow you to create interior compositions for every taste. Among typical cozy stylistic trends, country is the second most popular after Provence and Scandinavian style.

Every detail is selected with special feeling. This is a real paradise for hand makers. The use of various homemade decor, even children's toys, is encouraged

Key techniques to create a unique country style:

  • Lining is a popular material for wall decoration. This is an inexpensive and quite simple way to create the ideal canvas for subsequent decorative compositions.
  • Wood goes well with textured materials such as marble, smooth plaster, stone and even simple paper wallpaper.
  • The design of the floor is also important to maintain in style. The best option is a natural board or any modern coating that skillfully conveys the texture of natural wood. This should be taken care of at the stage when repairs are actively underway.
  • Support structures are not hidden, especially if it is high-quality and textured wood.
  • Each room is decorated in rich colors. The most trendy colors are tea rose, cornflower blue, lavender, primrose and apple green.

A beautiful home that embodies the idea of country style is usually filled with bright and eye-catching elements. As for wall decoration, wallpaper can be used. Popular prints are stripes, small flowers, and unusual checks. The decoration of the room will be emphasized by good-quality classic pieces of furniture: an old wooden chest, a wicker rocking chair, non-standard upholstered furniture decorated with rugs and bedspreads.

It is important to remember that the interior of a mansion or private house in country style should be as organic and natural as possible. The furnishings must fully comply with the concept of unconditional comfort, rest and relaxation.

Shabby chic: coquetry and positivity

Shabby chic is a unique style that showcases the opulence and decay of the Victorian era. This is a bright picture - a demonstration of what a cozy, rich home looks like. Let's look at the key features of the style:

  • White color is the base that allows you to expand any room. Pastel shades “covered with dust” are trendy.
  • A popular aging accent. Even a minimal touch of antiquity can give ordinary things an unusual look.
  • Using a large amount of floristry, floral ornaments and elaborate floral patterns. This is the most inexpensive way available to decorate a country house.
  • Home improvement is impossible without spectacular textiles. You can create cozy compositions using plain fabrics, items with embroidery, ribbon elements, ruffles and appliques.

By the way, not only the interior and veranda, but also the landscape design around the house can also be decorated in shabby chic style. To do this, you can install a swing on the site, plant rose bushes in ornate metal baskets, and paint all the fences in bright colors. Another trick is to decorate watering cans, mailboxes and other little things using the decoupage technique.

Rustic style: color and originality

Rusticism is based on fashion trends in the use of natural materials. The main concept is convenience, simplicity, spontaneity. This is not to say that this is an economical option, although in the end the interior looks rather rough.

If the house has a fireplace or stove, it can be decorated with marble slabs or natural stones. Accent wooden supports in combination with original, slightly rough wall decor will add even more color.

To decorate a cottage in a rustic style, the following elements are relevant:

  • The typical “village” is expressed in special interior and exterior wood trim. The characteristic color is wenge. Wooden elements must complement the interior design.
  • Quartz and sandstone are important attributes of the rustic trend. The more such finishing, the better. You can use two types of natural materials from this category in one interior.
  • Decoration using color designs. Russian rustic is emphasized by dark cast-iron decorative items, dark undertones “like bleached oak,” and antique pastel accents.

Rustic is sometimes confused with country. However, the rustic style has a clear orientation towards European canons.

The housing is decorated in a rough style. Decoration involves the use of natural materials. Rough things and massive elements made of wood and stone look very natural and attractive

Scandinavian style: for lovers of freedom and simplicity

Scandinavian style embodies functionality, versatility, and conciseness. This is not a cheap and simple design, but an exquisite showcase of natural brilliance. To make your design experiment at your dacha a success, you should heed the following recommendations:

  • Furniture made from natural materials in light colors is welcome. The central element, which looks very beautiful, is a massive sofa with a rough texture.
  • The fireplace is presented in an ergonomic modern model (electric model or biosimilars). As a tribute to the classics, you can use potbelly stoves.
  • White color is the background. Dark accents and touches of color are used on a light canvas.
  • A curtain or curtain is taboo. It is best if the windows remain “undressed”. The best option is white blinds.

Such techniques allow you to make the most of the space. An interesting interior is suitable not only for a dacha, but also for modern city apartments, which are compact.

Chalet: luxury and comfort

Another interesting style for a summer house is a chalet. A country house or garden house in this style is a clear demonstration of what an exquisite ecological building can look like.

Rustic always gives the room a certain touch of antiquity. Sometimes it seems that you are sitting not in a cozy modern living room, but in one of the rooms of a majestic castle. This is quite natural - the combination of stone, wood, heavy textiles and exclusively natural color can bewitch

Basic architectural techniques:

  • unusual roof;
  • big windows;
  • timber as a key background element;
  • large terrace or open attic (up to 30 m2);
  • massive ornate staircase;
  • unified concept of interior and exterior;
  • complex number of floors (one floor is higher than the other);
  • bathhouse as an additional design element.

The desire to be closer to nature is expressed in the presence of large open balconies. In a traditional chalet, all materials are of natural origin. The foundation is created from strong natural stone. The base is also stone. The attic and balcony are wooden.

An ordinary board or wooden batten is the main element of decor and finishing. There is no need to cover the walls with modern materials - only the rough natural texture is relevant in this case. In a “Swiss house” the windows are always huge. They are as open and wide as possible.

A stove or fireplace is also welcome in the interior. If the layout is complex, this can only be beneficial. The main thing is to work through the design thoroughly and step by step.

Modern style - ergonomics and sophistication

The general style of modern country apartments is designed in pastel colors. There are different projects in this direction: a chic, respectable interior, and an economy class design.

For city apartments it is important to play with the Open-space concept. Small studio apartments combine white finishing with massive light furniture and maximum open window space

Key style elements:

  • Diagonal layout.
  • The use of modern materials in combination with natural textures.
  • Functional connections from one room to another (studios, semicircular entrance to the apartment).
  • Furniture of geometric regular shape.
  • Laconic design of the room.

It is better if the finishing materials are of natural origin. The optimal choice: solid wood, bright marble, forged elements, spectacular “fisherman” decor.

Ethnic directions

There are many ethnic directions. The most famous of them is the African style. Key features: bright colors, primitive patterns, skins of exotic animals. Small decor - masks, totems, sculptures, ivory items.

Japanese style is another spectacular ethno. You can make Chinese motifs and elements from Japanese culture yourself. Even street decor on the site can be decorated in this style.

Japanese ethno is characterized by low furniture in a laconic, restrained design. The room is zoned using original screens. The material at hand is also relevant. The main finishing is rattan, bamboo, wood.

Ecological style is the most fashionable trend

When choosing an eco-style, it is better to decorate the entire room in the same direction. It's great to have a garden and terrace. Then one location can smoothly transition to another.

Key elements of ecological style:

  • only natural materials;
  • textiles made from linen and other natural fabrics;
  • open space;
  • the furniture is simple, closed;
  • wide panoramic windows;
  • the presence of a winter garden.

Everything in the house should be conducive to relaxation and tranquility. Other directions are similar in concept - Scandinavian, maritime, Mediterranean. Eco elements are also present in country interiors. Opposite in direction - loft and modern.

Layout, its features

The plan of a small country house may have only one room combined with a kitchen, or there may also be several rooms, which are also typical for a classic house for year-round use.

If you plan to regularly receive guests, then you should get a large living room or dining room. And if a small number of people are planned to stay at the dacha, then limit yourself to the minimum area.

For a summer residence the following are acceptable:

  • thin walls and partitions;
  • lack of electric or gas heating;
  • makeshift stairs and dining areas on verandas.

Dachas are usually used in the summer, and therefore there is no need to worry about ensuring that the heating is sufficient for living in the winter. Although if you plan to spend the winter holidays at your dacha, you need to create autonomous heating.

Small cottage: how to use space

The area of a typical dacha is on average 30 m² including the attic. Therefore, it is important to manage the space correctly. Get rid of unnecessary furniture and equipment.

Light colors and mirrors visually expand the space. There should be a minimum of items: a kitchen cabinet, a dining table, an armchair and a bed. It can be difficult to find the perfect furniture in a store, so it’s easier to make it yourself or ask your friends to help.

It is better to leave the center of the common room free to expand the room. Transformable furniture helps save space in the house. This could be an extendable dining table, a chair-bed or a folding sofa. The kitchen usually has enough of a refrigerator, an electric stove with 1-2 burners and several open shelves.

You should always remember that a mini-dacha is needed for relaxation, and not for storing rubbish.

Designer things

The interior design of a dacha involves the use of a large number of decorative elements, including decorations from city apartments that have already gone out of fashion.

When a person does not have old things in stock, then an excellent move to decorate the house and liven up the atmosphere would be:

  • flowers or artificial trees in massive tubs;
  • light curtains combined with a lot of wood;
  • antique lamps or with a minimum of decoration.

Paintings or copies of famous paintings look great in dachas. However, it is not recommended to store valuable paintings at dachas, because such housing is more susceptible to attacks by thieves and looters if it remains without owners for a long time. It’s good when a country house is located on the territory of a guarded village, but this is typical only for suburban villages near big cities. Otherwise, there is a high risk of robbery if the house is decorated with very valuable items.

Types of plaster mixtures

The main types of facade plasters that perform a decorative function are:

  • mineral - the most affordable, durable, moisture resistant;
  • silicate - fireproof, protects walls insulated with flammable polystyrene foam from fire, does not attract dust, does not deform, resists external negative influences, has a sufficient range of colors;
  • acrylic - does not change quality due to temperature changes, has high elasticity, helps store heat, protects from excess noise, does not allow moisture to pass through, can be painted in any shade;
  • silicone - resistant to moisture, vapor permeable, easy to maintain, increased elasticity gives a perfectly flat surface, and has an increased ability to adhere to the walls being finished.

Figure 4. Example, acrylic plaster.

Bathroom of a private house

To decorate in a rustic style, they use antique, out-of-fashion cast iron alloy bathtubs, mounted on large legs, often made in the form of animal paws. Often the bathroom is combined, and this is an excellent alternative to an outdoor summer shower and a country toilet.

Typical for a country house bathroom:

  • installation of an autonomous sewer system;
  • location of water supply pipes at the desired slope;
  • saving space and compact furnishings.

If you have or are planning to have children, then you should take care of stone or tile flooring. This will allow children to play without fear of getting the floorboards wet, since wood can rot quite quickly from water and moisture.

Lifehacks for the interior of a dacha

Even on summer nights it can be cold, so heating must be provided in the house. A fireplace or wood stove will become the center of evening gatherings. At the same time, for a small house it is necessary to take into account that electric models save space with the same heat transfer. The Old Russian style corresponds to a traditional clay stove. Nowadays it is brick, plastered and painted white. You can adapt to cooking on it. It is better to entrust the installation of a fireplace or stove to professionals who will take care of fire safety and long service life of the equipment.

Features of kitchen design

A kitchen in a country house can be decorated in both modern and classic styles, and wide windows in this room are of great importance - they allow you to save on lighting during the day, since bright sunlight enters the kitchen through the windows.

In this case, it is necessary to choose furniture for the kitchen from materials that are not afraid of not only moisture and dirt, but also direct sunlight. There are usually few cabinets in a country kitchen, since the bulk of the dishes are usually stored in permanent housing, and only the essentials are kept in the country house.

Bouquets of fresh or artificial flowers, or flowers in pots can refresh the atmosphere. Still lifes in reality and in paintings also look advantageous. Despite the fact that we are talking about a country house, you should not give up modern household appliances, which can greatly facilitate the work of cooking and cleaning, so that your rest becomes complete and household worries do not interfere.

Attic design

The attic gives the country house the advantage of additional living space. A bedroom or children's room is set up in this place. Windows of different sizes or shapes and the slope of the roof can give an individual look to the attic. Under the arch, drawers are made that will help effectively save space. There is also a games room with board games, parallel bars, and a hammock.

They can make a very stylish attic:

  • good natural lighting, which is complemented by lamps and lamps;
  • to ensure sufficient natural light, the window is made as open as possible, and curtains of suitable length are used to highlight it;
  • necessary built-in furniture that does not clutter up the space;
  • painting of walls is carried out according to the principle of zoning, which also allows you to mask the difference between the walls.

Country houses outside

Country houses are perfect for spending time in in the summer or spring, and garden plantings are usually placed in front of the building. Vegetable gardens with greenhouses are often placed in the backyard, or even outside the yard. If there is space, then it would be relevant to install a pool or pond with fountains and streams in the courtyard of a country house.

The paths to the house are laid with decorative bricks or filled with concrete, and unpretentious flowers are planted along them, which do not require regular watering and care.

To make it easier to care for the yard, you can use special coverings with lawn grass, and lighting can be made with built-in motion sensors.

Finishing the facade with plastering

Many owners choose plastered facades for home garden decoration. Plaster has many advantages. It is cheaper than other types of exterior finishing. Decorative plasters have been created that literally transform dilapidated country houses. Plastering helps insulate external walls. This problem is successfully solved both by the material itself and by the technology of applying a plaster mixture on top of the insulation.

However, this type of facade finishing work has disadvantages that you need to be aware of before making a final decision:

  • work cannot be carried out at negative temperatures;
  • the process is labor-intensive, taking a lot of effort and time;
  • plaster has a shorter service life - 10-15 years, even with strict adherence to all technological requirements and high-quality materials;
  • strength qualities are inferior to other types of finishes, especially when applied to insulation.

Finishing options by type of cottage

Due to the difference in the building materials of facade walls, there are differences and limitations in the use of external finishing for them. Let's look at this with examples.

Houses made of timber

A classic of dacha development is a house made of timber. Finishing begins after complete shrinkage of the structure (the process takes from several months to two years). For such buildings, a lightweight foundation is laid. Therefore, the exterior finishing should be light and not load the load-bearing elements.

Popular cladding is wood cladding: unedged boards, clapboard, block house. In second place are lightweight wall panels - vinyl siding, thin metal panels, fiber cement siding. The next option is plastering - a labor-intensive process. But the facade after such cladding “breathes” and is ready for final painting or finishing with decorative plaster mixtures.

Wood shingles for plastering work

Well, the most expensive option is facing bricks. This finishing requires strengthening the foundation, compliance with certain rules and nuances. Usually, it is performed by professionals. After successfully completed brickwork, it is difficult to perceive the house as a country house. This is a full-fledged country cottage, at least.

Finishing a house made of aerated concrete

Aerated concrete has a high vapor permeability rate and absorbs moisture well from the surrounding air. Film-forming paints and traditional cement-sand mixtures are definitely not suitable for such material.

Finishing of aerated concrete facade with facing bricks

Options for external cladding of aerated concrete facades:

  • Any hinged ventilated system with finishing siding, wooden or plastic lining, decorative panels.
  • Facing brick. The laying is carried out with a mandatory ventilated gap of up to 5 cm.
  • Plastering with light mixtures specially designed for aerated concrete.
  • The use of vapor-permeable textured paints made for facade walls.

Finishing the facade with cladding

There are numerous options for cladding a country house - the range of finishing materials is extensive.

Brick

Brick as a facing material is a worthy option for every home with a solid foundation. In its modern design, it is not just a durable building material, it has an original shape, texture, and color.

By type, facing bricks are divided into:

  • ceramic;
  • clinker;
  • silicate;
  • hyper-pressed.

Brick is an environmentally friendly product, made from natural raw materials. Of the many methods, finishing the facade with brick is preferable because it gives the house trouble-free and long-term operation. It is worth warning those who like to do everything on their own: without professional experience, it is almost impossible to build a flat wall, provide flexible connections, and distribute ventilation gaps. It is wiser to entrust the work to specialists.

Figure 9. Cladding the house with brick.

A natural stone

Natural stone finishing is always relevant: it looks stylish, is strong and durable.

Species commonly used for finishing facades:

  • limestone and sandstone;
  • shell rock;
  • slate;
  • marble;
  • granite.

The stones are attached to the wall with ordinary tile adhesive. The cost of such finishing is, of course, high. But the partial decoration of the façade with stone is no less beautiful.

The stone needs care, just like the flower beds that look luxurious against its background. Washing with water under pressure is accompanied by cleaning with brushes and scrapers. Stains are removed using chemical means.

Figure 10. Cladding with natural stone.

Fake diamond

Compared to natural stone, artificial stone is much cheaper, although some types are not inferior to the first in strength and wear resistance. Artificial stones successfully imitate real rocks and last for many years. When choosing stone as a finish and deciding what to choose, you should not focus only on natural stone. When facing a building outside the city, where there is no gas pollution or a high probability of damage, it is more advisable to use artificial stone. It will decorate the country house for at least 50 years.

When decorating the exterior walls of a house, artificial stone combines well with other materials:

  • plaster - the walls are plastered, and the corners, various protrusions, and the base are decorated with stone;
  • other types of decorative stone;
  • facing bricks;
  • Artificial stone and finishing ceramic tiles are successfully combined.

Figure 11. Facade decorated with artificial stone.

Tile

Tiles for cladding a country house are a proven material, both for renovation and new construction. And the process develops further. The line between tiles and torn stone becomes indistinguishable. Using clinker as an example, you can see how finishing bricks and tiles come together.

Tiles are divided into:

  • ceramic;
  • clinker;
  • cement-sand;
  • stone (from natural and artificial stone).

There is a special glue for each type. It is better to decorate the basement with larger tiles than the walls. This technique will improve the proportions of the building. To prevent your work from going down the drain, you need to make sure that the shrinkage of the walls is complete.

Figure 12. Clinker tiles.

Panels

Owners of country houses leave positive reviews about facade panels. A clever solution has been found to make it easier to cladding external walls.

Their main advantages:

  • easy to install, like a children's construction set;
  • protect the house from moisture;
  • retain heat;
  • pleasing to the eye with excellent design.

Panels are made from vinyl, wood, glass, stone, metal, cement, porcelain stoneware, etc. - the range of materials is truly limitless (possibly some exaggeration). The design is not limited to strict boundaries. A panel with a brick pattern competes with its counterpart depicting masonry; there are samples that imitate wood of different species, different colors and textures are presented. All this diversity gives scope for imagination and creativity.

Sandwich panels deserve attention. Their appearance is not as impressive as others. But the useful qualities are excellent. They have a multi-layer structure, where the base is insulation. They are also used for insulating the facades of country houses.

Exterior finishing tasks

Exterior finishing is considered a complex of necessary construction activities and works. They are carried out for cladding external walls, the visible part of the foundation, and the basement level. And during these events a whole complex of problems is also solved. We list the most significant of them:

  • Giving the country house a unique look that will delight the owners and their guests. The decorative and aesthetic component in the exterior cladding of the facade helps the self-realization of the building owners in decorating the dacha according to their desires and preferences.
  • The main task of facade cladding is to protect the load-bearing elements of the house structure from unfavorable, and sometimes destructive, environmental factors and precipitation. Only one layer of decorative finishing will help to significantly extend the service life of the main materials used for the construction of a summer house: porous concrete, brick, timber, cinder blocks.
  • For buildings located in open or elevated areas, the façade cladding acts as a barrier against ultraviolet radiation, protection from wind and possible drafts.
  • Thermal insulation measures are almost always combined with façade cladding work. Additional internal layers of thermal protection protect the facade surface from rapid freezing in winter and instant overheating in the summer heat. Year-round maintenance of a favorable microclimate inside a dacha building is complemented by the possibility of significant savings on heating and air conditioning in a certain season.
  • Creating an additional layer of sound insulation.
